Meta’s Facebook and Instagram encountered widespread technical issues on Tuesday, with numerous users experiencing difficulties accessing the social media platforms.
Users faced problems such as unexpected logouts from Facebook. When attempting to log back in, they received error messages like, “Something went wrong. Please try again.” Downdetector, a monitoring service, recorded a surge in error reports just after 10:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, with over 500,000 reports by 11 a.m.
Instagram users also reported issues with their feed not refreshing. The outage extended to Meta’s Messaging platform and Threads, its Twitter-like app launched last year.
At 10:52 a.m. ET, Meta spokesman Andy Stone acknowledged the issues in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.”
